About The Course History and Presenters
Dick Murphy (1929-2010)Dick Murphy founded the course in 1985 and was still teaching the course in the year of his death in 2010. He worked in the region for Exxon from 1958-1983 and subsequently worked as a petroleum exploration consultant for both major oil companies and national oil companies around the world.
Ian Longley attended the course in 1990 and took over as primary teacher of the course in 2004 and taught the course with Dick until 2010. He is a working professional geologist with 25 years of experience within the region. Ian has published extensively on the petroleum geology of the region and has worked for Lasmo, Woodside, Shell and Oil Search in various locations around the world but his work has principally focused on the petroleum geology of Australasia. He currently lives in Perth working as a consulting Petroleum Geologist is the co-owner and co-developer of the Player play analysis software (see www.GIS-pax.com).
Since 2010 Ian has taught the course with the assistance of various associates who all have extensive experience working on the Petroleum Geology of the region.
Tom Prudence - has a 30 year international career with Shell and RISC and is now CEO of Pan Pacific Petroleum in Sydney where his company explores in Vietnam and he actively reviews all the new business opportunities in the region
Peter Baillie - has a 40 international year career in the public and private sector and has for the last 14 years worked a chief geologist for speculative seismic companies searching successfully for new exploration opportunities in the region.
Steve Laux - has a 40 year international exploration career with Shell and Tately where he explored extensively across the region. He is currently Exploration Manager for Cairn in Edinburgh.
